Look Up 100 Subreddits in One Reddit API Call

Fetch subscriber counts, type and metadata for up to 100 subreddits by name in a single call, with the names Reddit did not return listed.

GET/api/reddit/subreddits/batch$0.0015 / call

Up to 100 subreddits in one call, by name.

Each subreddit comes back in the same shape as /api/reddit/sub/{name}/about: subscribers, active users, created date, type, NSFW flag, description and images. One call replaces up to 100 single lookups, at the price of one.

Query Parameters

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
namesstringYesComma-separated subreddit names, up to 100. An r/ prefix is stripped and repeated names are read once.

Example

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  "https://api.redditapis.com/api/reddit/subreddits/batch?names=python,LocalLLaMA,SaaS"
const response = await fetch(
  "https://api.redditapis.com/api/reddit/subreddits/batch?names=python,LocalLLaMA,SaaS",
  { headers: { Authorization: "Bearer TOKEN" } }
);
const { subreddits, missing } = await response.json();
import requests

response = requests.get(
    "https://api.redditapis.com/api/reddit/subreddits/batch",
    params={"names": "python,LocalLLaMA,SaaS"},
    headers={"Authorization": "Bearer TOKEN"},
)
data = response.json()

Response Shape

{
  "subreddits": [
    { "name": "Python", "fullname": "t5_2qh0y", "subscribers": 1400000, "subreddit_type": "public", "...": "same fields as /sub/{name}/about" }
  ],
  "requested": 3,
  "returned": 2,
  "missing": ["SaaS"]
}

Reddit leaves out a subreddit it will not serve, without saying why, so every name you sent is accounted for: it is in subreddits or in missing. A name is missing when the subreddit does not exist, is banned, or is private. To tell those apart for one name, read it with /api/reddit/sub/{name}/about, which answers 404 for one that does not exist.

Errors

StatusWhen
400names is missing or empty, holds more than 100 names, or holds a value that is not a subreddit name

Billed at the standard read price, $0.0015 per call, at any batch size.
